This is something we seem to hear more and more. A typical conversation would start like this…
“I have tried physiotherapy but it didn’t work for me. However, my friend saw you and said it was worth me trying here”.
So we ask “Well this previous Physiotherapy what did it involve?”.
Then comes the really frustrating bit (which we hear hundreds of times)… “Well they asked me a lot of questions and then gave me a sheet with exercises but they didn’t work!”
Of course, it didn’t work! There has been no individual care taken to solve your issues. Quite frankly, we feel this type of care is doing you a disservice.
I am still amazed to hear that people complete Physiotherapy or Sports Injury sessions without touch. I am not naive or close minded to think that our methods are the only way to heal pain. However, I do believe that all pain or problems are different. Your issues are individual to you and there may be multiple varying factors:
How it hurts?
How long has it hurt?
How often does it hurt?
What caused it to hurt?
What are you looking to do when it doesn’t hurt?
These are all crucial aspects that mean that our care must be individual. At Jon W Sports Injury we provide individual assessments, specific hands on and manual treatment and then provide a staged and personalised rehabilitation program to remove pain, increase mobility and allow you to return to the things you love to do!
Let me provide an example
A client of mine visited after being referred by a friend. She explained that she had suffered sciatica for four years! She loved to be mobile and walk around but this had been made more and more difficult by the pain. The lady explained to me that she had been told that due to her age she had a degenerating spine and discs that were causing an issue and there really wasn’t much she could do.
I provided some testing and found that she was very tight and overactive in a muscle called her piriformis. Why is this important?
Well, the sciatic nerve runs through or in close proximity to the sciatic nerve. Therefore, if the muscle is tight it can impinge the sciatic nerve and create sciatica. It is a condition known as ‘piriformis syndrome’.
So we got to work on her piriformis..
In just two manual soft tissue sessions she was free from any symptoms. She decided to see me once a month for maintenance appointments and two years down the line she has never had a recurrence of her symptoms.
She is a wonderful lady with far improved mobility.
When I asked her what her previous Physiotherapist had said about her piriformis muscle, she answered ‘they didn’t ever look there’.
Let me ask you one question…
If you were to take your most previous and loved car, that had developed a fault, to a mechanic and the mechanics work did not resolve the issue, would you send it for scrap.
I wouldn’t! I would see another mechanic.
Physiotherapy like so many treatments works for hundreds of people every day. However, like any service, you can receive great service or not so good. I am not even going to say we are the best. People often claim this but in truth how can we truly know that!
What I can promise is that if you attend one of our clinics you will:
Be treated an as an individual, with personal symptoms and reasons for wanting to be pain-free
Have a deep investigation to find the problem and the cause.
Be provided manual soft tissue therapy to correct the problems and cause.
Be provided an individual rehabilitation program, composed of pictures and videos with exercises for you.
